Baku, July 13 (RHC)-- Azeri authorities received at the capital's Heydar Aliyev airport a contingent of 115 health specialists from the Cuban Henry Reeve medical brigade who will collaborate in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cuban ambassador to this Caucasian nation, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, together with senior executives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Emergency of Azerbaijan, went to the air terminal to welcome the island's doctors.

Nieves Portuondo highlighted the humanism and professionalism of all the members of this brigade and emphasized that with this new mission, Cuba is present in 35 nations of the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East.

During the reception, it was emphasized that collaboration and solidarity are essential in these times.  Dalsy Torres, head of the contingent sent to this nation to cooperate in the fight against COVID-19, indicated at the time that there are 67 men and 49 women, of whom 57 are doctors and 55 are graduates, including 50 in nursing.

One hundred percent of the members of the brigade have more than five years' work experience, 71.5 percent are between 30 and 49 years old, 43.3 percent have already completed internationalist missions and 20 percent have been on at least two.

Hikmay Hajiyev, presidential assistant and head of the foreign policy department of the head of state, stated last Friday that Cuba has vast experience in the field of health in the world and in particular in the fight against the Ebola virus.
