Electoral Commission Takes Up Duties for General Elections in Cuba

In this regard, delegates will be elected to the municipal and provincial assemblies, and deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP).

After assuming their responsibilities, the 17 members, headed by Electoral Commission President Alina Balseiro, swore loyalty to the country, the Constitution and to the regulations governing electoral processes on the nation, and also expressed their readiness to perform their duties with transparency, truthfulness and punctuality.

At the solemn ceremony, held at the headquarters of the State Council, the Vice President of the Parliament, Ana Maria Mari, highlighted the virtues of the elections in the country, featured by the absence of campaigns, in which people's representatives are elected by their capacity and commitment to the bases.

According to the announcement, the first ballot will be carried out on October 22, in order to vote for delegates to the two-and-a-half-year term to the municipal assemblies of People's Power.

In those districts in where none of candidates get over 50 percent of valid votes, a run-off will be conducted on October 29.
