Victims of Hurricane Melissa Receive Home Appliances

Thousands of families in Santiago de Cuba — left devastated by the powerful Hurricane Melissa — have in recent days received televisions, washing machines, and gas stoves, made available through donations from friendly nations and organizations, with all operational costs fully covered by the Cuban state.
These appliances add to the mattresses, food, clothing, and other essential items that have already been distributed to the most severely affected residents through social assistance programs and other initiatives designed for disaster situations, delivered in accordance with available resources.
According to the Provincial Government of People's Power, the primary objective is to contribute to the gradual restoration of basic living conditions in impacted households. Distributions are based on assessments carried out by cross-sector commissions — led by local authorities and involving mass organizations — to ensure that aid is delivered in an organized manner, with priority given to the families who sustained the greatest losses.
Although the impact of the U.S. blockade presents a significant obstacle to fully addressing the needs of the more than 100,000 families affected by Melissa in Santiago de Cuba, relief efforts remain ongoing. These efforts also encompass the rehabilitation of housing, electrical services, and other essential infrastructure.
