Two catamaran-type vessels located by the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy after going off course on their route to Cuba arrived safely at the port of Havana on Saturday, the agency announced.

"The catamaran-type vessels Friendship and Tigermoth arrived and docked safely at the port of Havana, Cuba, following their location at sea," the institution stated through a post on its official X account.

The Secretariat added that it had maintained "monitoring and coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure their safe arrival at port."

Earlier in the day, the agency had announced the location of the sailboats, which departed on March 20 carrying material aid from Isla Mujeres, in the southern state of Quintana Roo, as part of the convoy known as Nuestra América.

Officials confirmed that the crews were in good health and would be escorted by a naval vessel to their final destination.

The Secretariat had launched a search and rescue operation on March 26 after losing communication with both sailboats, whose arrival in Cuba had originally been expected between March 24 and 25.

The Nuestra América Convoy is one of several international initiatives launched in opposition to the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba, which has been in place for more than six decades and was tightened in January through an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.

The resulting fuel shortages stemming from this latest tightening of restrictions have severely impacted critical sectors, including electricity generation, hospital operations, food production and distribution, and water supply across the island.
