Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced today that the Government of Cuba is maintaining dialogue with the United States, in line with the policy of the Cuban Revolution under the leadership of Raúl Castro, his own administration, the Communist Party of Cuba, and the State.

During a televised address, the president explained that the process had to be conducted discreetly in order to avoid speculation. "These are lengthy processes, and we had to find the right channels and ensure there was a genuine willingness to engage in dialogue," he said.

Díaz-Canel specified that the purpose of the conversations is threefold: to identify the bilateral problems that require resolution, to determine the willingness of both parties to take concrete actions in the interest of their peoples, and to find areas of cooperation to address shared threats while guaranteeing security and peace throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
