The complex situation facing the planet, aggravated by a scenario in which a new form of fascism and the law of the most powerful prevail, was analyzed Thursday by prominent Franco-Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet at Pabellón Cuba in the capital.

Amid such adverse circumstances, "Cuba is a beacon of dignity for the world," the intellectual and specialist in geopolitics and international strategy declared, while also condemning the policies of the United States government and what he described as its drive for domination.

Ramonet, widely recognized as a profound scholar of history and contemporary affairs, engaged in a wide-ranging exchange with intellectuals, colleagues, and admirers of his work at the Salón de Mayo, the national headquarters of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).

"This is a very particular moment," the academic warned, in clear reference to U.S. ambitions to dominate the Western Hemisphere.

He also addressed the blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years, recently intensified through the signing of an Executive Order restricting fuel supplies to the Caribbean nation, as well as ongoing conflicts involving Palestine, Venezuela, and Iran.

The Spanish intellectual cautioned about the dangers of nuclear war and called on audiences to remain vigilant regarding Washington's strategy toward the international order.

Also discussed was the limited time remaining for President Donald Trump to advance his agenda before the midterm elections in November.

"He has an unlimited window of imperial action — at this moment he can do, and is doing, whatever he wants," Ramonet emphasized.

During the event, moderated by journalist Magda Resik, the academic received the Condición Alma AHS distinction and a replica of the Hermanos Saíz monument.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Abel Prieto, president of Casa de las Américas; Marta Bonet, president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC); and Luis Morlote, deputy head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party.

The conference was held as part of the celebrations marking Cuban Press Day.

For the author of One Hundred Hours with Fidel, among other essential titles, Cuba stands as a beacon of dignity for the world and a model for the intellectual development of its people.
