Havana, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The Havana-based Casa de las Americas on Tuesday received the 2021 Carlos J. Finlay Barre Order, a distinction granted by the Cuban Government to those who contribute to the development of science for the benefit of humanity.

Together with notable scientists and institutions, we received the award this morning. On behalf of our group, we appreciate this important recognition that commits us enormously, the cultural institution highlighted on Twitter.

In addition to Casa de las Americas, which is a space for research on the cultural processes and thinking of the peoples of the region, several personalities, institutions and agencies from the central administration of the State will receive the Order on Tuesday.

As reported to the Cuban News Agency (CAN) by Doctor in Sciences Andrea Armas, of all 115 proposals, the distinction will be awarded to 50 prestigious researchers, three Cuban institutions and other foreign experts with valuable scientific and technological results.

The Order is the highest distinction granted in 2021 by virtue of Presidential Decree 351, at the request of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), as the governing body of scientific activity in Cuba.

It was established on January 21, 1928, by virtue of Decree 77 of President Gerardo Machado in honor of Dr. Carlos J. Finlay to encourage professionals with exceptional merits in the sphere of public health and social welfare.
