The event will pay homage to a place still battling the effects if Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The Latin Film Festival of Chicago will be dedicated to Puerto Rico, the organizers of the event announced Tuesday.

To take place from April 5 to April 19, in Chicago, United States, the festival will inaugurate with the Puerto Rican comedy "Broche de oro: Comienzos" and short film, “From Now On.”

Puerto Rican directors Raul Marchand and Ivonne Coll will be present at the gala, for a celebration of the "continuing vitality of Puerto Rican cinema," the festival's executive director, Pepe Vargas, said in a statement.

The event will also pay homage to the "strength and courage of a country that still faces the devastation of the hurricanes Irma and Maria," added Vargas.

Movies from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Spain will also be screened.
