Yuliesky got injured in the left side muscles of his body. He will be one week off the field. Fortunately, this injure is not as severe as some websites previously reported.

Some websites reported Gourriel had a severe concussion that would have prevented him from playing in the current season. But it was only a minor injury.

According to Olga Lidia Castillo, player´s mother who is in Japan along with Lourdes (the father) and Lianet (the fiance), “he feels pain whenever he moves”. That is why he “will be resting and having proper treatment at home”.

At Yakyubaka website stated, Gourriel was playing last Wednesday with his team to the Hiroshima Carp, at the Mazda Stadium, when in his third at-bat, and after a violent swing, felt a strong pain and was withdrawn from the game by the technical staff of the team.

By the time of his injury, Yuliesky had a 340 BA, 27 runs scored, 6 homers, and 16 RBIs in 26 games.

With such line, the Cuban player could opt to become the first foreign player in winning the Rookie of the Year award, according to some websites.

Yuliesky is one of the four Cuban baseball players who have signed in the Japanese professional baseball. The other players are: Frederich Cepeda, Alfredo Despaigne, and Hector Mendoza.
