Cuba's sports news website Jit reported the squad is headed by Idalis Ortiz, 2012 London Olympic and 2013 Rio de Janeiro world champion, and current world leader in the over 78-kg class.

Rounding out the squad are Olympic runner ups Yanet Bermoy (52 kilos) and Yalennis Castillo (78); Celia Maria Laborde (48), Dayaris Mestre (48), Aliuska Ojeda (57), Maricet Espinosa (63) and Onix Cortes (70).

Team coach Ronaldo Veitia told the Cuban Information Agency the team hoped to train hard in France and Spain, so they could perform their best at the world competitions from August 25-31.

Cuba finished in third place, behind Japan and France, at the previous world judo championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, thanks to the gold medals won by Ortiz in the women's division, and by Asley Gonzalez (90) in the men's.
