Cuban fencers will attend several important competitions this year, including the qualifying tournament for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, in 2018.

Aljadis Bandera, national commissioner of that sport, told ACN that the main event will be the one in Ponce, Puerto Rico, from April 28 to May 5, which will grant tickets to Barranquilla 2018.

There are also chances to be present at the World Junior Championship, which will take place in Poland; and we will try to participate in the Pan American contest based in Montreal, Canada, he added.

Bandera assured that he relies on a resurgence of fencing in Cuba; and stressed the importance of organizing in Havana the Pan American Championship for cadets and youths – it will conclude tomorrow -, something that had not happened for more than 10 years.

The official affirmed that this continental event is undoubtedly a great opportunity for the younger Cuban fencers who have little international experience, and now they face high quality rivals.
