Lufthansa to Cancel Over 900 Flights Over Pilots’ Strike on Thursday

Lufthansa will cancel 912 flights scheduled for Thursday amid pilots’ strike, country’s largest airline announced on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — German airline Lufthansa will cancel 912 flights scheduled for Thursday due to the pilots’ strike, country’s largest airline announced on Wednesday.

"Tomorrow, a total of 912 flights, including 82 intercontinental flights, will be canceled due to the extended strike, affecting another 115,000 passengers," a press release published on the company's website said.

The 5,400 pilots employed by Lufthansa, Lufthansa cargo and its low-cost subsidiary Germanwings have not had a wage increase since 2012 and they are calling for a 20-percent raise that compensates for the past four years. Lufthansa said it could increase the salaries by 2.5 percent within next six years.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lufthansa canceled 876 flights, including 51 long-haul flights.
