China calls on the United States to end violations of international law and to immediately lift the blockade and sanctions against Cuba, according to the spokesperson for the Asian country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun.
Speaking at a press conference, the spokesperson condemned Washington's continued deprivation of the Cuban people's right to survival and development, as well as its undermining of regional peace and stability.
"China will continue to provide support and assistance to Cuba within its capabilities, and I believe that under the strong leadership of the [Communist] Party and the Cuban Government, the Cuban people will be able to overcome temporary difficulties," Guo stated.
The media outlet Politico reported last Friday, citing sources, that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing a total blockade of oil imports to the Caribbean nation.
Washington has already pursued a similar policy in Venezuela, where in early January it carried out a large-scale attack and abducted President Nicolás Maduro. Numerous countries around the world, including China and Russia, condemned U.S. actions in the region.
