The Holguín Cubs are in optimal condition for the quarterfinal matchup against Artemisa, starting this Tuesday at the Calixto García stadium in the city of parks, marking the beginning of the postseason for the 64th National Baseball Series.
Following the recess for the year-end and New Year festivities, the team, led by manager Lugdis Pineda, maintained a responsible attitude during training sessions. They also held internal preparatory challenges and one against the Las Tunas Lumberjacks, the current reigning champions.
In exclusive statements to the Cuban News Agency, the team's captain, catcher Nelson Batista, expressed satisfaction with achieving the first goal: qualifying for the playoffs. However, he stated the team is now focused on advancing as far as possible in this decisive stage.
Yasiel González, the series home run leader with 16, affirmed his teammates' readiness to fight for victory every single day, aiming to provide new joy to the unconditional Holguín fan base.
Another of the northeastern team's offensive pillars, Lázaro Cedeño, who is second in runs batted in with 73, stated that the objective now is to advance to the semifinals, without giving up on the dream of contending for the title—a challenging aspiration, but not an impossible one to achieve.
Right-handed pitcher José Miguel Rodríguez, owner of six wins and four saves in the regular season, assured he would demand the maximum from himself to contribute to the collective effort of qualifying for the final four phase.
Aware of their rival's quality, the Holguín Cubs will take the field at Calixto García convinced that only with timely hitting, key defensive plays, and dominant pitching will they be able to defeat the Artemisa Hunters in the quarterfinals.
Starting tomorrow, a new chapter filled with emotions will begin to be written, where every game, every out, could mean staying in or saying goodbye to the competition.
