Cuban Foreign Minister Condemns US Meddling in Latin America at CELAC Summit

The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, condemned today the interference of the United States in the Latin American region and demanded proof of life for the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores.

During his participation in the Extraordinary Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the head of Cuban diplomacy warned of the dangers of the White House's intentions to restore a policy of interference through the use of force.

Faced with these pretensions, he stressed that "Latin America is not a disputed territory, it belongs to no one other than the sovereignty of its peoples."

Rodríguez described recent events as an existential threat of a historical nature that transcends all political and ideological lines and demanded that "all CELAC States set aside their differences to collectively defend the foundations of the independence and sovereignty of the countries in the area in the face of this threat."

He also called for the employment of all diplomatic and political efforts to demand due respect for Venezuela's territorial integrity and independence, as well as the immediate release of Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

Similarly, he added that we cannot "allow force and barbarism to prevail over international law" and must in due time "demand accountability from those responsible for the aggressions."

"Cuba rejects the brutal intention to impose military force and the Monroe Doctrine and its enshrinement in the current military doctrine of the United States," he concluded.
