Sundance Film Festival, Next Celebration of Independent Cinema

The Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important events in world independent cinema, will take place from January 22 to February 1 in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.

This edition will mark a special milestone, as it will be the last time the event is held in Park City after more than four decades in this historic enclave before it moves to Boulder, Colorado, in 2027.

With over 90 feature films and a varied selection of short films and episodic projects, Sundance 2026 will bring together emerging and established filmmakers from more than 28 countries and territories. A large part of the program consists of world premieres, with approximately 40 percent of the directors presenting their first work on this global platform for discovery.

The programming includes a range of genres and formats, from intimate dramas to impactful documentaries, highlighting titles such as the Australian documentary Sentient, the New Zealand comedy Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant, and the technology documentary Joybubbles.

In addition to screenings, the event will host a series of parallel events, discussion panels, workshops, and networking spaces for professionals in the global film industry.

One of the most emotional spaces will be the tribute dedicated to the renowned actor, director, and producer Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance Institute, whose vision of independent cinema transformed the industry and gave a voice to generations of storytellers. The tribute will include commemorative screenings and special events reflecting Redford's artistic career and enduring legacy; he passed away last year at the age of 89.

As part of the recognition of Sundance in Utah, the Park City Legacy program will be presented, reviving classics that marked the festival's history, such as Little Miss Sunshine and Half Nelson.

This festival not only celebrates cinematic art but remains an essential meeting point for distributors, filmmakers, and the public, solidifying its role as an incubator for future successes in independent cinema.
