Cuba Expresses Solidarity with Mexico Following Railway Accident

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his heartfelt condolences today to the people and Government of Mexico following the derailment of an interoceanic train in the south of the country, which left at least 13 dead and 98 injured.

The president lamented the tragedy on his account on the social network X and reiterated "our full solidarity" with the Mexican people.

For his part, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also conveyed Cuba's condolences and support for the victims and those injured in the accident on the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

According to Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy, the incident occurred on the railway's Line Z in the state of Oaxaca, where 241 passengers and nine crew members were traveling in two locomotives and four cars.

Of the total affected, 36 injured remain under hospital care, while 139 people have been reported out of danger.

The institution, responsible for railway operations, detailed that it mobilized 360 naval personnel, 20 vehicles, four ground ambulances, three air ambulances, and a tactical drone for rescue and search operations.

It also expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the competent authorities to clarify the causes of the accident.
