UN: Cuba Warns of Escalation of Aggressions Against Venezuela

Cuba alerted the United Nations Security Council to the escalation of aggressions by the United States Government against Venezuela, in violation of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and International Law.

Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the UN, described the U.S. naval blockade of the South American nation and acts of piracy and maritime terrorism in international waters of the Caribbean Sea as “irresponsible and unprecedented actions.”

According to Cuba’s Foreign Ministry, speaking at the meeting of the body, the island’s diplomat strongly condemned the “arbitrary and politically motivated” decision by the United States to designate the Venezuelan Government as a foreign terrorist organization.

Soberón Guzmán denounced the manipulation of terrorism as a political weapon and the double standard of a policy that weakens genuine international efforts to confront this scourge.

He emphasized that these actions seek to internationally isolate Venezuela, increase pressure, and escalate aggression with unpredictable consequences for the peace, security, and stability of the region.

He recalled that these provocations add to unilateral coercive measures, economic suffocation, discredit campaigns, and attacks against Venezuelan strategic institutions—including recent cyberattacks—as part of a psychological war aimed at overthrowing the constitutional government of President Nicolás Maduro.

Likewise, he pointed out that the new United States National Security Strategy, including the so-called “Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine,” deliberately ignores the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

The Cuban Ambassador demanded respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty, independence, and right to freely decide its destiny without external interference and called on the international community to halt this dangerous escalation that threatens the peace of Latin America and the Caribbean.

He also reiterated the rejection of the extension of sanctions and unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela, as they contravene International Law, and reaffirmed Cuba’s firm and unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government.
