The authorities in the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), reported on Monday that the death toll has risen to over 405 since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10, in line with the pact with Israel to implement the first phase of the U.S. proposal for the Palestinian enclave.

The Gaza Health Ministry stated in a communication on its Telegram account that 405 deaths and 1,115 injuries have been confirmed since that date. This includes twelve deaths—eight of whose bodies were found in areas from which Israeli forces withdrew—and seven injuries within the last 48 hours.

Thus, it highlighted that since the start of the Israeli offensive, launched in response to the October 7, 2023 attacks, a total of 70,937 deaths have been recorded—including 649 whose remains were found in areas Israeli troops withdrew from after the ceasefire took effect—and 171,192 injuries.

The ministry specified that in the last two days, four people died due to the collapse of a building previously bombed by Israel, which crumbled because of heavy rains from the polar storm 'Byron,' bringing the death toll from this cause to 15.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem denounced that "the continued collapse of buildings bombed during the war of extermination in Gaza, falling on the heads of their inhabitants, reflects the increasing risks of the humanitarian situation in the Strip in the face of the tightening Israeli siege, the blockade on reconstruction operations, and the failure to deliver appropriate shelters."

"The increase in Israeli violations, represented in the daily killing of citizens (...), is a continuation of the occupation's violations of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which exacerbates the humanitarian situation," he lamented in a statement published by Hamas on its website.

"This is happening at a time when various parties are talking about establishing a ceasefire and moving to the second phase of the agreement in Gaza, which reflects Israel's clear desire to continue its aggression against our people in the Strip," Qasem noted, calling on mediators to "take serious measures" to "stop these violations and pressure the occupation to launch a true reconstruction process."

This toll does not include two Palestinians who died on Monday in Shujaiya, east of Gaza City, after being shot by Israeli forces, according to Gaza medical sources cited by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Additionally, an Israeli quadcopter drone injured four people, including a girl, in the Al-Bureij refugee camp in the center of the Palestinian enclave, reports the Palestinian newspaper 'Filastin,' affiliated with Hamas.

Furthermore, a man was injured in the north of the Strip by gunfire from Israeli military in Beit Lahiya, and there were airstrikes by Israeli aircraft in Khan Yunis and Rafah.
