Cuban Parliament Condemns Naval Blockade Against Venezuela

The National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) today condemned the escalation of aggression and the naval blockade imposed on Venezuela.

The deputies expressed their disagreement with the recent act of piracy and maritime terrorism carried out by the U.S. government in international waters, as well as the decision to impose a naval blockade against the Bolivarian nation aimed at impeding the free trade of hydrocarbons.

These events "constitute a grave violation of International Law and the United Nations Charter, while also undermining regional peace," the declaration states.

The actions are part of a series of provocations and aggressions against the South American nation, which have escalated with a disproportionate and unjustified military deployment in the Caribbean. These acts also violate the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation. Furthermore, they create a negative precedent for international free trade and freedom of navigation.

"The seizure of the vessel, the theft of its cargo, and the pretexts used to blockade oil shipments reveal the true objective pursued by Washington in its actions: to take control of Venezuela's immense natural resources. This is being done through an increased U.S. military presence in the region and the use of instruments of force, as part of its new National Security Strategy and the Trump Corollary, which revives the infamous Monroe Doctrine," the document states.

The Parliament recalled the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, a proclamation that remains in force and must be respected. It also called on the peoples of the world to join this condemnation, as it is a duty to mobilize against the threat and use of force against Venezuela in defense of the peace, security, and stability of Our America.
