WestJet Inaugurates New Air Bridge Between Toronto and Havana Today

On December 18, the Canadian airline WestJet inaugurated a new direct air route between Toronto and Havana, marking a milestone in connectivity between the two countries and opening new opportunities for the Cuban tourism sector.

This connection, offering two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays, promises to facilitate the flow of visitors from one of the primary source markets to the island, connecting travelers with iconic destinations such as Varadero, Cayo Coco, and the Cuban capital.

In a press release regarding the event, the airline explained that the new route reestablishes a vital link, promising direct access to one of the Caribbean's most iconic and culturally significant capitals.

They add that this direct air connection will attract a diverse mix of travelers, including business professionals, academics, students, and tourists. Beyond traditional tourism, the route will foster educational and academic exchanges, as well as participation in significant cultural, sporting, scientific, and academic events held in the capital.

“Havana is a truly inspiring destination, and we are thrilled to make it even more accessible for Canadians,” said Mike Perkins, Senior Manager of Airport Affairs at WestJet. “This route reflects our commitment to providing more opportunities for Canadians to discover unique destinations, whether they seek cultural experiences, historic charm, or simply a Caribbean getaway. Our twice-weekly service between Toronto and Havana gives guests the flexibility to create the perfect escape for them.”

Utilizing Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the airline has positioned itself as well-equipped to serve the growing demand for tourism to Cuba, especially during the peak winter season. The chosen days for the flights correspond to the most common travel patterns among tourists, ensuring greater operational efficiency.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism has celebrated this initiative as a fundamental step to stimulate the recovery of tourism in the country. “The route opens new opportunities to enjoy the culture, hospitality, and warmth that characterize Cuba,” stated ministry representatives.

Flights are available for booking through WestJet Vacations, Hola Sun, and The Special Travel, or directly at westjet.com.
