The Cuban National Ballet (BNC) will donate the proceeds from its December 19th and 20th performances of Don Quixote to the victims of Hurricane Melissa, announced director Viengsay Valdés today.
The company, a Cultural Heritage of the Nation, is urging all those who wish to contribute to this noble cause to attend the first shows of the season of the classic Don Quixote at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater.
According to the director, this is "a very special cycle because it features the debut of young figures with great desire to excel," among them, Laura Kamila, Nadila Estrada, and Alejandro Alderete.
Kamila will star in the December 20th performance alongside principal dancer Yankiel Vázquez; while two established principal artists, Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández, will be in charge of opening the season one day earlier.
The cycle includes a total of nine performances, which will also be held on December 21st, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, and on January 1st, 2026, under the general direction of Valdés.
A Tribute to Alicia Alonso
The season pays homage to the legendary Alicia Alonso, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban prima ballerina assoluta.
A Demanding Classic
Don Quixote is "a classic so attractive and complex that there is no major competition where it is not danced," at least a fragment: be it a variation or the work's pas de deux, due to its great demands for virtuosity.
