A Journey to the Core: Delving into the Essence of Roberto Fabelo

To delve into the essence of a human being—an extraordinary artist—is a significant challenge, and that is the privilege Roberto Fabelo grants his audience with his new exhibition, "Médula" (Marrow), inaugurated today in this capital city.

The Cuban Art Building of the National Museum of Fine Arts embraces the genius of the 2004 National Prize of Plastic Arts, who overflows with mystery, wonder, and creativity in every visual proposal.

It could not be any other way; Fabelo always sets the bar very high for us, as described in his inaugural remarks by the institution's director and curator of the show, Jorge Fernández.

He always warns us that if we do not set our course correctly, we could disappear, and in that sense, I believe there is a feeling that is sometimes caustic, sometimes poetic, but always reflecting on our reality, he added.

In Fabelo's view, there is not just one beauty; his work is based on divergence; his work is difference itself, Fernández opined.

According to the curator, the artist invites us to travel to the marrow, to the essences of the human species, and in those bones, no matter where they come from, there lies their inscription, their drawing, their way of thinking.

The exhibition, which he described as a jewel and will remain open until March 2026, invites us to think, reflect, and understand that art—even if it does not change reality—makes us reflect upon it.

He also highlighted the visual artist's work, side-by-side for 15 days, with the restorers and installers.

Words of praise for his art and talent welcomed the public at the museum's entrance, much like the monumentality of 21 rhinoceroses that show the path of creativity embraces us.

He is not that red leader who distances himself from the herd; Fabelo is always in the herd and will live from within the herd of rhinoceroses.
