The Cuban men's national team defeated Algeria 3-0 in the opener of the matches for places 17 to 24 of the U-19 Volleyball World Championship, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

With this victory, achieved in straight sets, the Cubans will play Turkey on Friday for places 17 to 20, according to the international federation's website www.fivb.com.

The official collective statistics of the game have it that Team Cuba was better in attack (50-26) and serve (3-0), whereas the Algerians prevailed in block (7-6) and opponent errors (16-21).
