The Vitrina de Valonia, in the Old Square of this capital, is hosting the exhibition "Thursday Comes to Cuba" in celebration of Spanish Comic Book Day on Monday, March 17.
This exhibition will take place at 4:00 p.m. local time with the collaboration of several institutions, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation; the Spanish Cooperation in Cuba and the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID).
Tebeo, a children’s or youth publication whose subject matter is developed in cartoon, coloring, comic or comic strip series, celebrates the Day of the Comic and the Tebeo for the first time on this day, chosen to recognize and value the role of the professionals of the medium in the Spanish social and cultural life, as well as to promote the creativity and diversity of the sector.
The celebration is on March 17 because that date is especially significant for comics in Spain, since it was when the mythical magazine TBO was first published, which gave its name to the phenomenon of comic book reading in that country.
From the pages of TBO emerged some of the most beloved and remembered characters of Spanish comics, and Cuba joins in the celebration.
