Cuban authorities greet International Children’s Day

Havana, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other high-ranking Cuban authorities today congratulated the island's children on the occasion of International Children's Day.

Highlighting on his Twitter profile the priority that new generations have for this Caribbean nation, the president said that “in Cuba nothing is more important than a child.

For his part, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero referred to a phrase of National Hero José Martí that highlights: “(…) children are those who know how to love, (…) children are the hope of the world.”

I wish them happiness on this day, he noted.

Also on that social network, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said that the care and development of children is a priority in Cuba, and affirmed that rights, guarantees and social policies in favor of children and adolescents transcend the provisions of international instruments on the matter. Cuba celebrates today the International Children’s Day with new regulations included in the draft Code of Families, aimed at safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.

The Caribbean nation is also working on the design of a comprehensive policy for the care of children and young people with 10 strategic lines to guarantee the construction of a viable life project in the country.

International Children’s Day was instituted by agreement of the International Conference for the Defense of Children, held in Vienna, Austria, in 1952, to recall the vulnerability of children in the face of crises.
