Cuba evokes socialist declaration of the Revolution

Havana, February 4 (RHC)-- With events, cultural galas and talks, Cuba commemorates this Friday the 60th anniversary of the Second Declaration of Havana, considered a defining document of the Revolution in its early years.

A panel with prominent researchers of history and Cuba-U.S. relations, to be held at the Higher Institute of International Relations, will be one of the highlights of the program to commemorate the anniversary.

The historic event will also be commemorated in other academic scenarios and educational centers, where homage will also be paid to Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, who proclaimed the document approved by a million Cubans gathered at the Jose Marti Revolution Square on February 4, 1962.

This was the response to the expulsion of Cuba from the Organization of American States (OAS) during the meeting of the organization in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on January 31 of that same year, due to pressure from Washington, which was thus trying to avoid a policy of isolation of the nascent Revolution.

The text expresses the unwavering will of self-determination, of building socialism and defending sovereignty, at any price.
