Havana, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) With the opening of a new project to support local production in the western province of Mayabeque, Japan continues collaborating to boost Cuba's economic development.

According to a report from the Japanese Embassy in Havana on Wednesday, a project to support the local production of biological means for a healthier and more diverse agriculture was inaugurated in the municipality of Bejucal, in Mayabeque province.

The program will benefit Güines and Bejucal municipalities, as part of the Non-Reimbursable Financial Assistance for Community Projects for Human Security (APC) of the Embassy of Japan in Cuba.

Yuki Asaka, in charge of Culture and Press, noted that the inauguration was financed through the CARE International program in Cuba, with an amount of 79,992 euros.

Such collaboration seeks to increase food production and contribute to food security in the municipalities.

Previously, a container with medical materials donated by different organizations in Japan arrived in Cuba to support the work of health professionals.

The donations came from Cubans living in Japan, from the Japan-Cuba Scientific-Technical Exchange Committee, and from the Federation of Democratic Doctors of Japan (Min Iren) in the prefectures of Tokyo, Saitama and Fukuoka.

Solidarity with Cuba remains active in Japan from different sectors and in recent months it has borne fruit in the contribution of medical equipment and supplies to support the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Recently, the Japanese Government donated 84 buses as part of the Non-Refundable Financial Aid and through the Procurement Agency Japan International Cooperation System.
