Uruguayan president ready for government transition

Montevideo, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) Uruguay's President Tabare Vazquez stated on Sunday that this Monday he will be available to begin the process of government transition with whoever is elected president today.

Tabare exercised his right to vote early this Sunday, and on leaving his home he answered questions from reporters.

He reiterated his willingness to provide all the information required by the winner of the elections, be it Luis Lacalle Pou, of the opposition National Party, or Daniel Martinez, of the ruling Broad Front.

He said that the government has been preparing the information in paper and digital format for three months, 'and all that we are asked for,' and for this a team was formed including the President of the Budget Planning Organization, Alvaro Garcia, and the Secretary of the Executive Office, Juan Andres Roballo.

Regarding the incoming president's main challenge, he said this was to preserve the social balance achieved in the last 15 years.

In his last exercise of suffrage as president, Vazquez expressed that he does so 'with the same tranquility as the previous opportunity, we live in democracy and in democracy the opinion of the people counts and if there is a change of power too.'

Vazquez lost as a presidential candidate in 1999 against Jorge Batlle belonging to the Colorado Party, but won in the first round in the 2004 and 2014 elections.

From his first victorious experience he recalled that he was proposed for re-election but sustained he refused because he considers that power switching is 'positive.'
