The first criminal action for crimes against humanity was lodged in this capital against Chilean President Sebastian Piñera and former interior minister Andres Chadwick.
The accusation was presented by social activist Roxana Miranda and human rights lawyer Monica Araya, sponsored by lawyer Ruben Jerez Atenas, who told Prensa Latina that the lawsuit was submitted to the 7th Guarantee Court in Santiago.
The complaint is based on crimes against humanity related to the murder of five people by state agents during the demonstrations that began on October 18 and are still raging.
The accusatory document points out that the widespread attack of the defendants against civilians was evidenced in the establishment of the state of emergency and Piñera and Chadwick's order the armed forces to intervene in the streets against the demonstrators.
The accusation also states that the crimes against humanity correspond to the murders of citizens Romario Veloz, Alex Nuñez, Kevin Gomez, Jose Miguel Uribe and Manuel Rebolledo by members of the anti-riot police and the armed forces.
In addition, the accused are also charged in other three cases of police abuse, violence and excessive repression by anti-riot forces.
In order to do so, the plaintiffs rely on the classification made by the legislation in force in Chile on crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes.
