Officials from China and Cuba on Friday highlighted the value and international scope of the work by Alejo Carpentier, one of the most outstanding authors of the Caribbean nation.
These appreciations were expressed during the delivery to the Cuban Consulate General in Shanghai of 30 copies of the books 'The Kingdom of this World,' 'The Age of Enlightenment' and 'The War of Time and other stories,' recently translated into Mandarin language.
Huang Yuhai, general manager of Shanghai 99 publishing house, described Carpentier as a greatest Cuban writer of our time due to the impact of his work on Latin American and world literature, the diplomatic office stated in a note.
Other prominent figures described the Cuban author's language as magnificent and elegant, and assured that reviving his works is the greatest tribute to him, the Cuban culture and the friendship between the two socialist states.
Meanwhile, Consul General Nestor Torres recalled Alejo Carpentier as an exceptional intellectual and one of the most outstanding figures of the Spanish-American literature for his baroque works.
During the activity, fragments of the book 'The Kingdom of this World' were read in Chinese and Spanish languages.
Carpentier's works previously reached China translated into Mandarin language in the 1980s, along with works by other Latin American authors, such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Jorge Luis Borges.
