British Prince, Duchess with Wide Agenda in Visit to Cuba

Prince Charles of Wales, heir to the British throne, and his wife Camila, Duchess of Cornualles, will be fulfilling a wide agenda of cultural and social activities in their unprecedented visit to Cuba starting Sunday until Wednesday.

The visit to Cuba is part of a Caribbean tour the Prince and the Duchess are doing. Though it does not have a governmental character, it is considered by London and Havana an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, boosted by the visit in 2016 of then Secretary of State for Foreign Relations Philip Hammond (current Minister of Finance) and the transit visit last November of President Miguel Diaz-Canel to London.

According to the agenda, Charles and Camila will place a wreath to pay tribute to National Hero Jose Marti at his monument in the Revolution Square, will attend a welcoming dinner thrown by the Head of State and enjoy a ballet gala at Havana Grand Theater Alicia Alonso.

They will also speak with private entrepreneurs and members of a club of British classic cars. The agenda includes also visits to community and art centers, learn firsthand about what Cuba is doing to boost renewable energy, urban agriculture, fight domestic violence, protect the environment and restore heritage.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Cuba will certainly welcome Their Highness with warm hospitality.
