Venezuela dismisses European interference in legislative elections
Caracas, Dec 7 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza dismissed on Monday interference by rightwing political sectors in Europe regarding the legislative elections held on Sunday in the country.
On Twitter, the FM rejected pretensions to ignore the legitimacy of the electoral process under the questionable argument of a low turnout to the ballot boxes, when 31 percent of the 20,700,000 registered voters responded to the call.
'Some politicians of the European right-wing are currently unbridled against Venezuela, especially from Germany. On Sunday, there were parliamentary elections in Romania. The participation was the same as in Venezuela. No sanctions, no boycott against fuel… A little bit of coherence,' demanded the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Former Spanish President Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who was one of over 200 foreign observers of the Sunday parliamentary election, urged the European Union to reflect on its position regarding Venezuela and to distance itself from the US aggressive policy of the Trump administration against this country.
Seers from over 30 countries, in addition to 1,600 domestic observers, were deployed across Venezuela to watch over the transparency of the vote, as part of electoral guarantees.
The Great Patriotic Pole, the governing coalition led by Presidente Nicolas Maduro came out the winner with 67.8 percent of the ballots; meanwhile the Democratic Alliance, made up of opposition rightwing parties, lagged far behind with only 17.95 percent of the votes.
