Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday congratulated the 2020 National Literature and Publishing Award winners, Eugenio Hernandez Espinosa and Mercy Ruiz, respectively.
On his Twitter account, the president acknowledged the well-deserved distinctions that demonstrate their contribution to the development of letters in the country, their talent and commitment to their work, which was also highlighted by Culture Minister Alpidio Alonso.
According to the jury, made up of Eduardo Heras Leon, Leyla Leyva, Victor Fowler, Alex Pausides and Omar Valiño, the award winner Hernandez Espinosa is one of the most important contemporary playwrights with a career that represents Cuba's popular art. In 2020, the 29th edition of the International Book Fair was dedicated to him, who is the artistic and general director of Teatro Caribeño (Caribbean Theater), an honor he shared at the fair with author Ana Cairo Ballester, National Social Sciences Award winner.
For her part, publisher Ruiz, director of Ediciones ICAIC, expressed her emotion for the award, which acknowledges her 56-year career.
The jury of the publishing award was made up of Virgilio Lopez Lemus, Norma Suarez, Roberto Manzano, Hermes Moreno and Enrique Perez Diaz.
