Xi Jinping calls to speed up development zone in southern China
Beijing, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called to speed up the development of the economic zone that will connect southern Guangdong province with Macao and Hong Kong, as it is the cornerstone in China's prospects for growth.
The president noted that the city of Shenzhen, nicknamed China's Silicon Valley, plays a key role in the project and must take advantage of its strengths and design regulations to expand transport connections and the movement of goods and talents among the three regions.
Xi mentioned the city's achievements over the past 40 years, as it was transformed from a backward town to an internationally influential metropolis, a pioneer in socioeconomic reforms, with a solid foreign trade and guarantees for the basic needs of the population, in tune with the socialist precepts.
In order to boost integration, Xi favored adopting measures to encourage young people in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to move to mainland China for better possibilities to study, work and live, which would also contribute to 'fostering their sense of belonging to the homeland'.
The president proposed attracting foreign companies and the Chinese diaspora in other countries to participate in investment plans, establish companies and contribute to the development of special development zones (SDZ).
Xi's statements came at a ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Shenzhen SDZ.
