Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted this Sunday the boost of innovation in the solution of problems. With the tags #VamosPorMás, #SomosCuba and #SomosContinuidad, the president said on his Twitter account that science and government go hand in hand also in food production.
During the daily meeting he heads with Prime Minister Manuel Marrero of the temporary working group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus, the Cuban president reported the day before on a meeting with several scientists and which was aimed at supporting the food sphere.
"This is one of the nation's most urgent issues requires the promotion of Cuban science, as was demonstrated in the successful confrontation with COVID-19," said the President of the Republic's website.
"There is a group of ideas that have been agreed upon and discussed during these days and that should impact on food production," explained Díaz-Canel.
Together with this work, the head of state said that each territory, each local production system, has to continue to take strong action in food management that will allow us, also in this recovery stage, to reactivate agricultural production, improve all distribution systems, food marketing.
We are still far from achieving the food and nutritional sovereignty that we have been asking for, and that really puts us in a complex situation," the head of state said at the meeting with academics.
He said it is a problem of national sovereignty and covers many elements that must be interrelated, such as production, distribution, food safety, marketing, prices, quality and nutritional habits.
Meanwhile, he called for the integration of scientific contributions from all knowledge, including social knowledge. At the same time, he stressed the need to provide space for exchange with producers of different forms of ownership and management, in order to take into account their interests.
He called for better use of knowledge, science, technology and innovation. "It is not enough to have human capacities; it is also necessary to create a work system with a public policy approach that ensures that this potential is efficiently used," he stressed.
