Women in Brazil lead massive mobilizations against Jair Bolsonaro

Brasilia, December 6 (RHC)-- Women from different popular movements, trade union centers, feminist collectives and political parties in Brazil carried out massive mobilizations this Saturday in rejection of Jair Bolsonaro's policies, which have worsened social inequality in the country.

Under the slogan "Bolsonaro Never Again," thousands of demonstrators also recalled that Bolsonaro's negligence has resulted in more than 615,000 deaths from COVID-19, a virus that the president has underestimated since its appearance in 2020.

During the protests, feminists reiterated that since before the 2018 elections, they warned about the extremist positions of the far-right.   "Before he became president, we pointed out how dangerous Bolsonaro is," added the leader Leila Gabriel.

Among the convening organizations were the Articulation of Brazilian Women (AMB), the World March of Women (WMW), the Unified Black Movement (MNO), the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) and the Union of Blacks for Equality (Unegro).

In turn, organizations such as the Workers' Party (PT), the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), the Unitary Workers' Central (CUT) and the Workers' and Labor Central of Brazil (CTB) also participated in the mobilization.

"It is important for us to get Bolsonaro out, even if it is one day before the end of his government," said the member of the Feminist Organization Sempreviva and the WMW, Sonia Coelho.  She considers that it is impossible to coexist with a government that destroys lives and rights every day.

For her part, the representative of the Feminist Rise Against Feminicide, Rita Andrade, pointed out that Bolsonaro's government caused a dismantling of public policies that "had been generating important social advances" for Brazilians, but with special impact on women.

"We see that Black women, women from the periphery, indigenous women are even more affected in this scenario. So, the act (...) is one more way for us to say together that this government must be stopped, that there is not the slightest possibility of continuing" with it, she added.
