Geneva, Jun 17 (Prensa Latina) The World Health Organization (WHO) described as worrying the SARS-CoV-2 variant known as c-37, which was detected for the first time in Peru and it is present today in 29 countries of the world.

According to the weekly report by the sanitary organization, this variant of the coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, has been named Lambda and was considered a matter of interest, due to its behavior regarding its high power of contagion.

'Lambda carries a series of mutations with suspicions of phenotypic implications, like a possible increase in the contagiousness and resistance to neutralizing antibodies', declares the text.

The name is linked to WHO's recent decision to use Greek letters to name the variants without stigmatizing the countries where they were spotted for the first time.

For their part, Peruvian authorities stated that 81 percent of Covid-19 cases since April 2021 are associated to the c-37 strain.
