Havana, Sept 19 (Prensa Latina) Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Sunday paid tribute to the father of his country's independence, Ho Chi Minh, at a park in Havana named after this hero.

Accompanied by Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes, the distinguished guest laid a wreath in front of the bust of the leader and said he was touched by Cubans' affection, Cuban News Agency (ACN) reported.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted Cuban people's knowledge about his country and the solidarity relations between both nations.

The Vietnamese dignitary is paying an official visit to Cuba with an intense work agenda, including meetings with Cuban top leaders on Sunday.

This visit, according to reports from both sides, seeks to strengthen trade and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Saturday, a memorandum of understanding on scientific cooperation was signed by the executives of Cuba's Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and Vietnam's Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Medical Biological Products.

Moreover, Vietnam authorized the use of Covid-19 vaccine Abdala, developed by Cuba, for emergency use.
