Venezuela's ambassador to UN says U.S. uses drug trafficking as a pretext for war

United Nations, August 12 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, denounced that the United States is trying to provoke a war against Venezuela using alleged drug trafficking as a pretext.

"Trump seeks war with Venezuela using drug trafficking as an excuse... a new type of threat produced by his best ally: Colombian drug lords," the diplomat said on his Twitter account.

Moncada's statements come after the United States naval forces announced the capture of a large submarine off the Colombian coast.

Later in another tweet, the UN ambassador showed the video of the operation to stop the submarine by the Southern Command and recalled that Colombia is the largest drug producer in the world.  He also emphasized that there is a clandestine fleet of drug submarines breaking records for cocaine exports from that nation.

"It's the golden age that's bigger than Pablo Escobar's.  Trump has no excuse for invading Venezuela, the drug lords are part of the aggression plan," the diplomat points out in his message.

According to reports, the captured ship is 30 meters long, 3 meters wide and can transport 6 to 8 tons of narcotics.  

Since last April, Donald Trump's government announced the beginning of counter-narcotics operations in the Eastern Pacific and the Caribbean, and deployed the forces of the Southern Command to the vicinity of the Venezuelan coast under that pretext.

Venezuela strongly repudiates the statements made by Trump, his secretary of defense, attorney general and other officials of his security team, who are trying to divert attention from the tragic humanitarian crisis they are experiencing due to the erratic handling of COVID-19.
