U.S. Congressmen conclude official visit to Cuba

Washington, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) A bipartisan delegation of U.S. congressmen concluded on Wednesday a four-day visit to Cuba, according to an official statement.

Democrats Salud Carbajal (California) and Jahana Hayes (Connecticut), and Republican Jim Baird (Indiana) traveled to Havana as U.S. Congress´ Lower House members.

The visit included meetings with Cuban farmers, agribusiness operators and local authorities to debate on Cuban agriculture´s present conditions.

“We had the chance of meeting with Cuban farmers and local experts to better understand Cuba’s domestic farming operations, as well as discussing mutually beneficial economic openings for U.S. businesses and the Cuban people,” the delegation stated.

The U.S. congressmen held meetings with the Cuban Vice-President Salvador Valdés Mesa, Foreign Ministry´s officials as well as with members of the Agri-food Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP).

According to the press release, in addition to agriculture, the US delegation was deep interested in many other issues including “human rights, migration and consular issues”.
