Kyiv, Jan 21 (RHC) -- The Ukrainian Minister of Health, Victor Lyashko, and the Cuban ambassador to this country, Natacha Diaz, agreed to exchange experiences in the protocols of confrontation against Covid-19 in both countries.

At a meeting at the ministry's headquarters in Kyiv, the parties updated each other on the epidemiological situation regarding the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in each nation.

The Cuban representative referred to the island's efforts to halt the spread of the infection and, in particular, to the process of mass vaccination of the child population with national immunizers.

At the same time, she extended to the Ukrainian minister an invitation to the International Universidad 2022 Higher Education Congress, sent by the Cuban Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Ángel Portal.

Lyashko explained to the head of the island's diplomatic mission about the recent decision of Kyiv to develop a platform for the development of biotechnological innovation, in which Cuba and Ukraine could implement joint projects.

In this regard, the Cuban diplomat drew attention to the possibilities of collaboration in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers with the use in Ukraine of Heberprot-P, a leading drug of the island's biotechnology.

Diaz also pointed out that oncology, epidemiology, and cardiology are other areas in which scientific-medical collaboration with the Antillean nation is also being defined.

Both parties confirmed the possibility of continuing treatments in Cuba for Ukrainian patients based on the experience accumulated from the Chernobyl program, and the Havana representative in Kyiv reiterated her country's willingness to collaborate in the fight against Covid-19.

The meeting was also attended by Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Health, Olexander Komarida, as well as other officials.
