Washington, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) US President Donald Trump is currently squeezing Cuba's economy by a cruel and malicious attempt to starve the Cuban people, a US analyst condemned when criticizing some sanctions on the country.

Peter Kornbluh, director of Cuba Documentation Project at the George Washington University National Security Archive, published in The Nation magazine the cynical policy on Cuba has been a basic element of almost all US presidential campaigns since 1959.

Peter Kornbluh, however, warned that, to advance the presidential outlooks, Trump is now sacrificing the US citizens' pivotal rights: the freedom to choose their places of accommodation when they travel to Cuba; attend music festivals, buy books or cigars of their choice, and also buy the souvenirs they want to take home.

'At the same time, The United States is squeezing Cuba's economy by a cruel and malicious attempt to starve its citizens, as the Cuban people, like many other nations, desperately struggles to recover from the costly Covid-19 pandemic,' the expert pointed out.

Kornbluh recalled that after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, its historical leader, Fidel Castro, nationalized famous tourist industry, which at that time was dominated by US gangsters such as Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano and Santo Trafficante.

Since then, the state has held total or majority ownership of Cuba's hotels, which has left them out of reach of US citizens, he said in reference to the most recent punishments announced against Cuba.

Such measures, put into effect in September, ban US citizens from staying on government property in Cuba, importing Cuban rum or tobacco, or even traveling to Cuba under a general license to attend academic, sports and cultural events, among others.
