The III Juan Padrón In Memoriam Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum will be inaugurated today in the Cuban capital, aiming to generate learning, dialogue, and cooperation among specialists from the region's audiovisual industry.
The Animation Studios of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) will host the event. Its first day features the project "Linterna Violeta," a dialogue with Cuban director Ivette Ávila about the series of animated spots and documentaries, using mixed techniques, that analyze the main manifestations of violence in society.
Following this, a master class by British cinematographer Frank Passingham will take place, who will conduct a workshop on cinematography for Stop Motion.
The Forum's program, which will run until December 11, also invites attendees to the collateral activity Animassinha, a claymation workshop with Brazilian animator Daniel Rabanea, designed for 25 children aged 10 and over.
This workshop will be held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at La Manigua.
Dedicated to the renowned Cuban filmmaker, cartoonist, and comic artist Juan Padrón (1947–2020), the event is part of the program of the 46th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.
Running until December 14 under the slogan "Rodando cine," the grand celebration of the seventh art in the region promises to captivate with diverse initiatives and the screening of 222 films, 114 of which are in competition for the Coral Prizes and the rest in other sections.
The guest country of honor this year is Mexico.
