SARS-CoV-2, the respiratory virus with more cases in Chile in 2024

SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, is the respiratory virus with the highest circulation in Chile at present, according to statistics from the Public Health Institute (ISP).

From March 3 to 9, the ISP carried out 2,159 tests and detected 812 viral agents, 34.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

Of these, 534 contagions (52 percent) were related to Covid-19, followed by Rhinovirus and Adenovirus.

Since February, an increase in the JN.1 strain, popularly known as pirola, has been reported in Chile.

With the arrival of autumn, vaccination against influenza began here, while immunization against SARS-CoV-2 is available in clinics for people in risk groups.
