Russia to respond to confiscation of assets accordingly

The Russian government will respond accordingly if other countries confiscate its money or its citizens' assets, Spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, assured on Wednesday.

She said at a briefing session that any use of the funds of the Russian State or its citizens without the consent of the legitimate owners will be interpreted as an illegal, defiant and hostile attack against her country and its power structures.

Regarding the blocking of Russia’s financial resources in foreign accounts, Zakharova considers those actions illegitimate and in violation of all principles and regulations of international law, and destructive for the unbiased work of the world financial system.

Of course, this is the beginning of the destruction of the global financial system. These actions by western countries can be interpreted as a flagrant violation of sovereign property, she said.

To Zakharova, the implementation of these measures will be another reason for everybody to doubt dollar and euro reliability as reserve currencies and main means of foreign liquidation.

She pointed out that the West’s refusal to interact exclusively in the legal field and the worsening of the situation with the State and individuals’ access to their assets will create an extremely dangerous precedent.
