Russia, Cuba agree to hold a joint commission meeting in Havana

Moscow, Sep 25 (Prensa Latina) Russia and Cuba agreed on Friday to hold the next session of the intergovernmental commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical cooperation between the two countries in Havana, after a meeting here of co-chairs of that entity.

Cuba's Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas and Russia's Deputy Head of Government Yuri Borisov agreed to hold a new session of the intergovernmental commission before the end of 2020 and to immediately convene the preparatory Working Groups for that event.

Both co-chairs of the bilateral entity held an honest and cordial exchange, as part of the excellent political relations that exist between the two countries, based on consensus reached since President Vladimir Putin's visit to Havana in 2014.

According to a press release from the Cuban embassy in Russia, the current state of economic, commercial, financial and cooperation ties was reviewed, as well as the need to boost prioritized projects that are being executed between both sides.

In that regard, Cabrisas and Borisov spoke out for continuing to advance in all areas of common interest for both countries in the current difficult conditions.

Cuba's Deputy Prime Minister provided detailed information on the complex current situation of the Cuban economy, the unprecedented tightening of the US unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade that tries to smothers the economy.

In addition to this, Cabrisas explained, are added the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, from which the whole planet does not escape.

He set out the steps that Cuba is taking to achieve its economic recovery, accelerate the rise in exports, import substitution, and the development of food and energy programs, as well as advance foreign direct investment, among other priorities.

Meanwhile, Borisov conveyed Russia's gratitude to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raul Castro Ruz, and to Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez for the permanent support of the country to the course joint policy in the development of international relations.

Deputy PM was along with Julio Garmendia, Cuba's ambassador in Russia; Ana Teresita Gonzalez Fraga, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment; Emilio Lozada Garcia, general director of Bilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Isaac Hernandez Perez, director of the Central Bank of Cuba, and other government officials.
