Moscow, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed his country's support for Iran's position on the resumption of the nuclear agreement.

“This plan should be renewed only as approved by the United Nations Security Council, without additions, without any exemptions,” the official said at a press conference during his visit to Cambodia.

Lavrov stressed that the Americans are now trying to make a modified plan the subject of a new agreement, while the Iranians insist that everything must be as it was approved back in 2015, and Moscow believes that Tehran’s position is “absolutely legitimate.”

The head of Russian diplomacy recalled that it was the United States that left the agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which all the parties involved, including Washington, had approved.

Lavrov stressed that it is the White House that must give up its position and return to the initial agreements.

Iran’s representative Ali Bagheri Kani arrived in Vienna on Thursday to participate in a new round of negotiations on the possible revival of the JCPOA, the Iran Press News Agency reported.

“The responsibility lies with those who have reneged on the agreement and have failed to distance themselves from its ominous legacy. The United States must seize the opportunity offered by the generosity of the JCPOA partners; the ball is in their court to show maturity and act responsibly”, the Iranian diplomat emphasized.
