Putin highlights Brics cooperation in fight against Covid-19

Moscow, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin today highlighted the anti-Covid cooperation of the Brics Group countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and recalled the initiative to create a study center about coronavirus.
When intervening at the XII Brics summit, this time via videoconference, Putin pointed out that at the summit in the Russian city of Ufa, in 2015, it was agreed to create a warning center related to the coronavirus, long before the Covid-19 appeared.

Similarly, two years ago the referred group proposed to form a center for research and vaccine production. All this allows a coordinated work of the five nations when facing the current pandemic, said the head of state.

Russia is willing to share its research regarding Covid-19, including its Sputnik V and EpicVacCorana vaccines, as well as a third that is in preparation, stressed the statesman, host of the summit in that format.

Putin recalled that Brazil and China participate in the pro-registration and third-phase clinical trials of Sputnik V, while cooperation is being sought to produce the aforementioned vaccine in India and South Africa. The important thing is to achieve mass manufacturing, he noted.

The president referred to the common position or close to the coincidence of the Brics Group to support a package of measures that should be analyzed at the summit of the Group of 20, in Saudi Arabia.

Likewise, he reiterated the Russian proposal to create green areas during the pandemic to end sanctions and regional conflicts and, at the same time, allow the supply of medicines and food to nations with those needs in the world.

In addition, the Russian president referred to the development of cooperation to face global threats such as terrorism and in that sense he referred to an anti-terrorist strategy, which is expanded with an anti-drug and anti-corruption collaboration.

The statesman recalled that during the Russian presidency this year, the New Development Bank was created, based in the city of Shanghai and with an initial fund of 10 billion dollars, now with a package of 62 projects for 20 billion dollars, he said.

In addition, the Brics has a fund that insures its activities for 100 billion dollars, he stressed, before giving the floor to the statesmen of India, China, South Africa and Brazil.
