Havana, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday mourned the death of Graciliano Diaz Bartolo, an 'exemplary internationalist doctor', who passed away as a result of Covid-19.

The president expressed his condolences to the doctor's family and friends on his Twitter account, and noted that he shares the pain of those who knew him.

Diaz Bartolo, who was a member of Cuba's first medical brigade assisting the Italian people in Lombardy, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, died in Santiago de Cuba on Sunday, according to Cubadebate's website.

After returning home, he went on saving lives in that eastern Cuban province, where he continued working until contracting the disease.

The doctor had a long background of solidarity with other nations, including his participation in the Henry Reeve Contingent that contributed to the fight against Ebola in Africa.

According to Cubadebate, Diaz Bartolo was considered an example for his colleagues in his profession and was highly appreciated by people in the communities where he worked as a family doctor or where he lived.
